GREATER NOIDA: His elder brother Charles Pic's Caterham wasn't the quickest car on the Buddh International Circuit but Arthur Pic was, expectedly, on top of the time sheets in the qualifying session of the FIA sanctioned MRF Challenge on Friday. Pic, who competed in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series and finished eighth, took pole position for the only support race to the Indian Grand Prix.
The qualifying was a threeway battle for pole position between including Pic, Tio Ellinas and Harry Tincknell. The three drivers were separated by less than two-tenths of a second. Earlier in the day Pic had also been fastest in the sole practice session.
In qualifying, GP3 race winner Ellinas became the first driver to chalk up 1:55:745. British F3 driver Tincknell did a lap of 1:55:852. Pic managed 1:55:684 to take pole.
Parth Ghorpade, one of the three drivers supported by Renault, was the best-performing Indian driver and qualified 10th on the grid. Ashwin Sundar and V Anand qualified 15th and 17th respectively.
